Building off of the success of La Paz Community School in Brasilito founded in 2007, the La Paz Association is proud of the successful launch of the Tempisque campus that strengthens the existing programming and expands the impact of the school.
The social investment to support this initiative came from La Paz’s US partner organization, World Children’s Project, in collaboration with the Pura Vida Education Fund and included an investment in human and capital resources as well as professional development and infrastructure at the existing La Paz preK-12 program in Brasilito which is now named La Paz Community School – Cabo Velas.
The La Paz Community School – Tempisque campus hosts a preK-10 bilingual, experiential learning program that is accessible to north-central Costa Rican communities including Liberia, Papagayo, Coco / Hermosa, Filadelfia, Comunidad, Guardia, and Santa Cruz.
The school will grow by one grade each year with the first class graduating in 2025.
The Tempisque river valley is the lifeblood of the central Guanacaste agricultural communities that are now blending with an active local and international trade, tourism, and commerce market. Just as La Paz – Cabo Velas functions as the community center for the diverse coastal villages that are driven by tourism and ranching, La Paz – Tempisque serves as the educational leader for the Tempisque river valley, collaborating with local businesses, schools, and community associations to improve social capital and community integration through a culturally relevant, place driven and internationally recognized curriculum that revolves around the La Paz Peace Practices: Self, Family, Community, World.
The school demographic includes a blend of Costa Rican citizens, residents, and ex-patriots as well as a comprehensive financial aid and scholarship program. THE LA PAZ SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM has already had a lasting impact on the local community and continues to support a learning environment of inclusion at the new facilities. Additionally, Financial Aid is offered to families who are unable to pay the full tuition.
The La Paz – Tempisque campus is conveniently located in the town of Comunidad near the banks of the Tempisque river and within the next 5 years is expected to serve a student population of approximately 300 to 500 students ages 3 to 18 who reside within a radius of 30 minutes.
