The La Paz Casa Tenorio experience is the culmination of the students’ path to discovery of their self, family, and community in the greater context of the world.
Vision
At La Paz, we recognize the sensitive nature of the socioemotional transition from pre-adolescence to adolescence. While engaging in academic content that prepares students for the analytical, creative, and critical thinking skills required by the International Baccalaureate program, Casa Tenorio members are intentionally taught the socioemotional skills necessary to navigate the emotions brought about by everything from sexuality to friendship to rock and roll.

Academics
From the five-paragraph essay to the scientific method to the history of Latin America, “Casa Tenorianos” engage in a carefully crafted Dual Immersion curriculum that focuses on developing the higher order thinking skills necessary to tackle the rigor of the IB Diploma program in 11th and 12th grade. Almost all students are English or Spanish Language Learners, and this requires teachers to work collaboratively to ensure that the thematic curriculum is taught in an interdisciplinary fashion across subjects.
Socioemotional Growth
The development of socioemotional skills (SES) is equal if not more important to the Tenorio academic experience. Both Community Meeting and Advisory are programs that are rooted in the importance of SES. The teaching of responsibility and organization are also key components embedded in Tenorio’s daily life.
Advisory consists of a meeting with 12-13 students of mixed grade levels (6th-8th), twice per week for 35 minutes, and a staff adviser who provides academic and personal support and helps foster communication skills, cultural empathy, wellness, team building, trust, and individual self-esteem. The Advisory Program is the result of La Paz’s conscious and deliberate decision to ensure that each child in our school has an adult advocate and companions of different ages to talk to.
