BACKGROUND & HISTORY

Imagine a place where your child not only learns but feels excited to do so—that place is La Paz

La Paz Community School was founded in 2007 by a small group of visionary educators, parents, guardians and community members who shared a dream: to offer an innovative, hands-on, bilingual education to all families in Guanacaste, both local and international. From the start, they envisioned a school where all cultures, especially the local culture, would be celebrated, and where students would learn both about and from their environment.

Today, approximately 750 students from preschool through 12th grade, representing numerous communities in Costa Rica and from around the globe, come together on our two campuses. Here, they learn to become creative, multilingual, compassionate, and responsible citizens of the world who are well versed in the principles of sustainability and mindful citizenship.

In 2011, producer/videographer John Perez and editor Marlon Villar spent 3 weeks on the La Paz campus and in the local community, capturing the unique learning experiences and vibrant school culture.

We will always be grateful for this film they created. While our school and facilities have certainly grown and evolved over 10 years, the essence and vision for the school remain solidly intact.

The Costa Rican non-profit organization La Paz Community School is founded.
School operations commence with 50 students from Kindergarten to 7th grade, including 8 scholarship students.
The first 2 classrooms are built in loaned facilities in Flamingo, Guanacaste.
